3 Tips to Prepare Your Room for Repainting
Are you planning on hiring painters in Alpharetta? You need to properly prepare your room so they'll have an easier time helping you with your renovation. Here are a few tips you can follow.
Remove Furniture from the Room
This is a crucial step before painting a room. This'll help avoid permanent damage to your furniture or fixtures during the renovation process. If something can easily be moved, like a chair or small desk, carry it out and place it in another area. Move heavier items using sliders or a hand truck, though you may need to ask a friend to assist you.
For furniture that's too heavy to carry out, such as a large L-shaped couch or king-sized bed frame, cover the entire thing with a layer of thick plastic to prevent it from getting stained. Tuck the sheet under the item as well, so the bottom is protected. Then, move it to the middle of the room so the interior painters won't have a hard time working around it.
Take Down Everything Hanging on Your Walls
Items such as picture frames and clocks need to be removed from your walls so you won't get paint on them. Take them down and store them in another area or lay them flat in a chest of drawers. For lighting fixtures, wrap them with plastic and tape or remove them completely.
You can also choose to pull out any nails or screws if you wish to change the layout of your decorations. Just use the back end of a claw hammer to remove them. Then, cover the holes with spackle and sand them down once they're dry. This'll give the painters an even surface.
Detach All Wall Plates
Unscrew all the switch plates and outlet covers to keep them paint-free. Put both the fixtures and their respective screws in individual plastic bags, so you know which ones go together. Store these somewhere you can't misplace them.
Once these plates have been taken down, cover the socket and switch holes with some electrical or painter's tape. For added protection, you can also place a strip of plastic on top and seal its perimeter.
These are just a few tips to follow when preparing your room. You can ask painters in Alpharetta what else you should do before they start their work.
